Oozing the1970’s vibe

Like many brides I was completely head over heels for any ‘boho bride’ that I laid my eyes on whilst planning my wedding. I just loved (and still do) the tousled hair, the disarranged bouquets and the yards of long flowing lace and silks. Well today is all about going back to the emergence of the modern day bohemian vibe; the hippies of the 1960’s – 1970’s.

There is much to be taken from this era in terms of wedding day styling. Think VW camper van, mismatched table settings, flower crowns, bags of colour, crochet and maybe throw in an oversized floppy hat for good measure.

Whilst a full blown hippie wedding might not be everyone’s taste, there are definitely pockets of this era that will add to a bridal boho vibe just perfectly.

A vintage touch

A vintage touch is one of the most popular themes for any wedding day and with good reason; it’s just so darn romantic.

For this moodboard I’ve taken inspiration from Downton Abbey (if you haven’t watched it then you really should) and the early 1900’s without trying to get too distracted by the Gatsby era of abundance and art deco.

One of my favourite new loves has to be the shoulder necklace which fits in perfectly to a vintage vibe, in fact these images are making me hanker after one myself. You know, for all the balls I attend….I digress.

If like many brides you want to achieve a romantic look but don’t want to go overboard on a vintage theme, then why not add some ‘splashes’ of vintage. Lace, old suitcases, leather bound books and lavender are some of the easiest ways to achieve these ‘splashings’. This is an easy and accessible theme to incorporate into your day and if you’re a fan of the this era I guarantee it will make your heart soar.

Anyone who has ever read Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland would, like me, have been captivated by the imaginative craziness that made you feel so at home. It is a childhood book that I loved. And then came the Disney film…I was well and truly hooked.

Today’s post is all about combining the love for Afternoon Tea with Alice in Wonderland and if I may say so myself, I think that it is a cracking combination.

As we enjoy the sheer luxury that surrounds us in Dubai (and I’m sure that most of us have experienced an Afternoon Tea or two here) it can be very easy to forget how simply wonderful the weird can be. Quirky and strange can be captivating yet frightfully quaint and it is this ideal that I have tried to portray in this mood board.

Afternoon tea or buffet dinners are making waves in the wedding world as more and more couples look for an informal alternative to the traditional sit down meal. I absolutely love this combination of vintage finds and pretty cupcakes and I hope that you folks do to…

As you have probably already guessed from the title of this blog, I love lace. Quite frankly I just think it is the darn best material ever! Romantic and classic, it is a great texture to absorb into your wedding day. Matched perfectly with burlap for a truly rustic feel or etched out against gold or silver to add to the feeling of luxe, it is also truly versatile.

Following the weddings of the Duchess of Cambridge and fashion guru Kate Moss, lace wedding dresses are more popular than ever which also means that incorporating lace into your day is bang on trend.

Totally Tropical

When I think of a tropical wedding I immediately think of bright colours, exotic blooms and tasty cocktails sipped from coconuts. Dubai is without a doubt a perfect ready made venue for a tropical wedding with endless sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. You could really inject a taste of island life with some of these ideas.

Alternatively, do it the organic way and have your wedding on a true tropical island.

I don’t know about you but these images make me want to jump straight on a plane to Hawaii….

Today’s inspiration is all about opulence and luxury and I think that there is no better place to look for that than in old hollywood. Thinking of the grace and elegance of the hollywood superstars as well as the glitz and glamour that surrounded them and you have got yourself a recipe for the perfect wedding day.
