With a philosophy as simple as ‘to look good’ you know that you’re in the right hands with Delvero. A bespoke Italian tailoring service with the additional expertise for custom-made Italian leather shoes, Delvero is the answer for the modern day global man.
With luxury embedded at the very core of this company, every single suit is made-to-order from premium suiting fabrics and fully hand-stitched making them exquisitely finished. Each product is made by hand to each client’s exact specifications by highly-experienced artisan tailors and cutters in their Naples atelier, and unique paper patterns are cut and retained for each individual client.
Could you tell us a bit about the process of having a bespoke suit made?
We class our service as made-to-measure rather than full bespoke, as a fully bespoke suit requires around 4-7 fittings, including a canvas fitting, and will cost upwards of AED 18,000. Having said that, there’s a lot of variation within the ‘made-to-measure’ label and our products are at the very top of this bracket and offer a quality and fit that is close to bespoke.
The first step is for the client to make an appointment to visit our studio. They can come alone or bring their fiancée for ‘guidance’ as they see fit! Before coming to the appointment, it is useful to come armed with some information about the wedding such as the colour of the brides and bridesmaids dresses, and the overall look and theme.
At the studio, we will first introduce a client to our various fabric ranges and the characteristics of different kinds of fibres such as wool, silk or mohair. We have a large range of fabrics including many that are suitable for warmer climates, and a huge variety of colours (including pinks, whites, brights and pastels – so not just boring office greys!).
Once the fabric is chosen we move onto styling the suit and the wedding outfit by going through our customer portfolio, various magazines, pictures the client has brought and our large scrapbook of Italian style. While we don’t deviate too much from our slim, stylish Neapolitan house cut, there are still a lot of other style points to discuss and decide on. A lot of our clients take our guidance for this part of the process but some know exactly what they want before they come – either way is fine!
The final part of the initial appointment is the fitting. Clients try on a variety of our samples to see how different sizes will look on their frame and we also take a large number of body measurements; all the information is sent off to our master tailors in our Naples atelier and they craft a new paper pattern for the customer, from which the suit is cut.
After that, there is nothing for the client to do but wait! The completed suit arrives back in Dubai within 5-8 weeks, at which point the client is invited to come for their first fitting (which can be done in our studio or in their hotel, office or private residence). Alterations are done in Dubai by our highly-experienced tailor, and take around 5 days. A second set of alterations may also be necessary to get a perfect fit. We also encourage our clients to book a follow-up appointment after they have worn their suit 8-10 times so we can check the fit and how the garment has moulded and settled to their body, although this doesn’t always apply.
Approximately how much does it cost?
Our pieces range from AED 5,000-30,000 aed for a 2-piece suit, depending on the fabric. Most 2-piece suits are in the AED 9,000-15,000 range
How long does it take?
It is never a good idea to rush a wedding suit! Although it takes 6-8 weeks for the garments to arrive back from Naples and a further 1-2 weeks for alternations, we advise ordering wedding garments at least 3 months before the wedding to allow for any unexpected delays.
Which materials do you use?
At Delvero, we only use premium, luxury fabrics from the world’s top manufactures including Dormeuil, Loro Piana, Scabal and Ermenegildo Zegna. We have an extremely comprehensive fabric range including innovative blends and luxury fibres such as silks, cashmere and mohair. Many of our fabrics are not available in Dubai through other retailers.
What is the latest trend in groom’s suits?
In modern weddings, the spotlight is no longer reserved only for the bride! Wedding menswear has really come into it’s own in the past few years and the main trend is a move away from traditional – and often boring – wedding menswear towards more individual and less conservative choices. In our eyes, it is absolutely imperative to chose a modern cut – it is much more stylish, sexy and youthful. That means a fitted suit, cut slim and narrow, not overly padded, with high armholes to shape the body, slim sleeves, with a slightly raised hem, button point, breast pocket and lapel notch compared to a traditional English cut. Trousers should be slim, not too long, with a high cut crotch to lengthen the legs. A beautiful, luxurious fabric – such as a wool/silk blend – is a must; the modern man is not afraid of an exciting colour or fabric, and a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion to commission something truly beautiful. Some of our most popular wedding style are our low-cut U-shape waistcoats, our chain-fastened jackets and silk-covered buttons (many grooms swap these out for traditional fastenings after the big day). A relaxed luxury with a touch of insouciance is my favourite look for a modern wedding.
