Sassi Holford ~ whirlwind weddings and her 2014 collection

Today is a bit of a treat because not only do we have the new collection from the wonderful Sassi Holford but she is also talking to us about her very own observations on the increasing number of brides who are choosing to shorten their engagements and opt to hold their weddings as soon as possible.

Personally, I think this is a good sign. Whilst I may be a wedding blogger and therefore somewhat in love with the whole process of getting married, like most women I have a busy full time job and quite frankly the idea of agonising over each and every decision is just not realistic. This trend hopefully means that we are getting less and less attached to the ‘tick-list’ of what makes a day perfect and just concentrating on the things that make us happy. After all, that is the reason why I love doing this blog; it’s all about focusing on the happiness and joy of the day, not the 3 years of unnecessary stressful planning.

Anyway, I hand you over to Sassi:

The Huffington Post reported recently that the average waiting time between the proposal and the wedding day itself is between 13 and 18 months, with the wedding taking 10-15 hours a week of the happy couple’s time in the months preceding the wedding.  Unsurprisingly, 74% of brides considered eloping rather than continuing with the plans!

Royal wedding dress designer Sassi Holford has noticed a dramatic upsurge in the number of weddings with a short lead time over the last year.  Over 70% of Sassi’s clients, who come from all over the world, are looking at getting married within a year, rather than the longer lead time that is the norm.

Sassi believes there has been a sea change in the way brides think about marriage.  “We’re seeing a lot more fun and flirty weddings, rather than more stately, ornate affairs,” she says. “The brides themselves are surprisingly more focused because they don’t have two years to worry and turn into bridezilla.  There is not time for all that extra emotion and obsession, and they know they have to make compromises.”

“Very few brides these days have time to commit to long haul wedding plans,” continues Sassi.  “They have jobs to do and lives to get on with.  The wedding has to fit in with what is going on with the rest of their lives rather than being the focus of it so in essence they make it work for them;  if they have got six months to do it, it will take six months.  For some brides, agonising every small decision for weeks is enjoyable;  for many, they approach it briskly, in the same way they do their work, and want it to be organised efficiently and in a relaxed way.”

Eleanor Jones, a PR manager from London, is one such bride, who got engaged and married within a year as the couple wanted a winter wedding but didn’t want to wait for more than a year.

Eleanor believes that she easily achieved her wedding preparations within a year, but said that “some people have commented on how quick it is so yes, I suppose some people think it’s unusual to have a wedding on this timescale.”  Eleanor found the church, the venue and her Sassi Holford dress “quite easily”, but put the lack of stress down to “my lovely mum;  I think it may have been quite daunting without her.”

So the secret to a stress-free whirlwind wedding is a Sassi Holford dress and family support – sounds like perfect wedding advice.
